An art gallery is an ephemeral exhibition space that can open for a single day or several weeks, even months. A temporary gallery rental does not commit you with a permanent lease and allows you to give a real taste of who you are as an artist, display unique works and designs or validate the potential of a Chicago neighborhood while benefiting from great flexibility.
Chicago is the perfect city to organize your art gallery!
Chicago, which draws a crowd eager for discovering new art, is full of special gallery-ready venues available for rent from a few days to a couple of months: apartments, old warehouses, etc. Track lighting? White walls? Wood panelled? Whether you are looking for unique, comfortable or compact spaces, you are guaranteed to find on Storefront the most ideal flexible venue for the event you are organizing.
In terms of the most sought-after locations for art gallery rental in Chicago, we recommend the areas surrounding Magnificent Mile and Michigan Avenue – very central and easy to reach from all parts of Chicago. Our personal favorites include River North, West Loop, River West, Logan Square, Lincoln Park, and South Loop.
For exclusive or intimate art openings, Chicago has no shortage of small gallery venues you can find pretty all over the city. West Town is your best bet, while River North is the go-to for young and modern art professionals.
On the other hand, the most common options for bigger art events include dedicated art exhibition spaces, large function rooms, art centers. The Chicago Arts District is a natural choice for its foot traffic of art aficionados, but West Loop also offers plenty of large exhibition halls. Magnificent Mile has no shortage of art galleries, but they tend to be the most expensive. On the other hand, Lincoln Park is a good compromise between location and affordability.
It’s hard to come up with a single answer, as it depends on many factors, such as the location, the duration, the pricing, and many other factors.
If you’re after a versatile blank canvas space such as a so-called “white box” gallery or exposed brick walls, you can expect to pay a higher fee of around $500-$800 for the entire day. The hire fees for premium venues in Chicago are usually much higher – we’re talking several thousands of dollars, depending on the size and the facilities.
