Temporary Retail Space for Rent in Paris 9th Arrondissement

The 9th arrondissement sits between Opéra and Pigalle, giving brands access to two very different consumer profiles in a single district. Storefront lists temporary retail spaces across the arrondissement, from ground-floor units on the Grands Boulevards to intimate gallery-style venues in the streets around Rue des Martyrs.

Why rent temporary retail space in the 9th arrondissement

The 9th is one of Paris's most commercially diverse districts. The southern half, anchored by Opéra and Haussmann, draws department-store shoppers, office workers and tourists year-round. The northern half, centred on Pigalle, has become a hub for independent fashion, design-forward concept stores and lifestyle brands.

A temporary retail space here lets you test a concept without committing to a long-term commercial lease. Brands typically rent for a few days to several months, depending on whether the goal is a product launch, a seasonal activation or a longer market test.

What types of space are available

The 9th arrondissement offers a wide mix of formats suited to different retail strategies:

• Street-level boutiques along Rue de Provence and Rue du Faubourg-Montmartre, with strong natural footfall from Grands Boulevards traffic

• Showroom-style apartments in Haussmannian buildings, ideal for fashion presentations, press days and private sales

• Gallery-ready venues near Rue des Martyrs and Rue Henry Monnier, popular with emerging art and design brands

• Mixed-use loft spaces around South Pigalle (SoPi), well suited to experiential pop ups that combine retail, food and community programming

Ceiling heights, natural light and storefront visibility vary across the district. Most listings on Storefront include photos, floor plans and capacity details so you can shortlist before visiting.

Best locations in the 9th for a pop up

Opéra and Grands Boulevards attract the highest daily footfall in the arrondissement. Proximity to Galeries Lafayette and Printemps means your pop up benefits from an existing luxury and mid-range shopping audience. Expect higher rental rates but stronger walk-in volume.

South Pigalle (SoPi) is where many of the 9th's independent retailers and specialty coffee shops have clustered over the past decade. The area draws a younger, design-conscious crowd and is particularly strong for DTC brands, streetwear and lifestyle concepts.

Rue des Martyrs runs north through the heart of the arrondissement and functions as a neighbourhood high street. Foot traffic is consistent throughout the week, and the mix of food shops, boutiques and galleries creates a browsing-friendly environment.

Frequently asked questions

How much does temporary retail space cost in the Paris 9th arrondissement?

Rates depend on location, size and street visibility. Ground-floor spaces on Grands Boulevards typically start around 200 to 500 euros per day, while smaller showroom apartments in residential blocks can be available from 100 to 250 euros per day. SoPi boutiques generally fall in between.

How long can I rent a temporary retail space in Paris?

Most spaces on Storefront are available from a single day up to several months. Short activations of three to seven days are common for product launches and press events. Market-testing pop ups often run four to twelve weeks.

Do I need a permit to run a pop up in the 9th arrondissement?

French commercial regulations apply. If you are selling goods, you will typically need a SIRET number or a temporary commercial registration. Specific requirements depend on your activity type. The pop-up shop permits guide covers the essentials.

What is the difference between the 9th arrondissement and neighbouring districts for pop ups?

The 9th bridges the luxury retail corridor of the 8th arrondissement and the creative, nightlife-driven energy of the 18th. It offers a middle ground: strong commercial infrastructure without the premium pricing of the Champs-Élysées area, and a trend-forward audience without the tourist density of Montmartre.

Can I rent a space for a showroom or press day in the 9th?

Yes. Haussmannian apartments near Opéra are particularly popular for fashion showrooms, sample sales and press presentations. These spaces offer high ceilings, natural light and a central location that is easy for buyers and editors to reach by metro.
